Belviq the New FDA Approved Anti-Obesity Drug

The American Food and Drug Administration has taken measures to curb the increasing rate of overweight Americans, through giving their approval to a new medication that helps overweight individuals control their diet by making them feel fuller faster.

In recent years the Food and Drug Administration has been hesitant to approve anti-obesity drugs due to cardio logical risks by certain ingredients. But the makers of Belviq has proven and successfully convinced the FDA that low dosages of Belviq, by which it will be prescribed, won’t have any cardiological side effects.

Now the thing about Belviq is that it works in a way that tricks the brain to release a chemical that suppresses appetite. The brain produces serotonin, a chemical that helps regulate intestinal movement and helps decrease appetite. The drug does this by making overweight people feel full faster. Also Belviq gives a metabolism boost to those who are taking it.

Belviq or generically known as Lorcaserin is usually prescribed to be taken at least twice a day, and is advised to be incorporated in healthy diets and exercise programs approved by physicians.

Belviq has been approved for Obese adults with a body mass index (BMI) of 30 or more, and overweight individuals with a BMI of 27 or up with weight related health conditions, such a high blood preasure, type 2 diabetes or high cholesterol. Based from recent studies, taking Belviq can produce a moderate weight loss result. As based from the research data submitted to the FDA, almost half of the owerweight test subjects that have type 2 diabetes lost approximately 5 percent of their documented starting weight.

Serotonin based drugs have potential risks that includes migraines, depression and memory lapses. This is why FDA has been reluctant to approve serotonin based anti-obesity drugs due to the cardio logical risks it poses.

Other warnings that the FDA submitted were that Belviq is not for women whoare pregant or who are nursing.

Obesity rates in the USA are increasing and aproaching 35% in adults and this is resulting in associated health care costs rising.

Health care institutes and Physicans have been urging the Health regulators to address this problem by finding and approving new types of weightloss treatments.

The FDA have issued a stament on Belviq, and it is advisable to read this information, as these weight loss supplements are going to be highly regulated by the Health care system, and therefore can only be prescibed by youre physican
